About our Hornworms aka Goliath Worms
We offer Hornworms in two different culture sizes. The small culture cups contain enough food to grow the hornworms into the small 2" size. The large culture cups contain enough food to grow the hornworms into 4" full grown worms. The large cups contain 12-18 worms, and the small cups contain 25-35 worms.
Hornworms grow into large, soft bodied caterpilllars. Their natural green/ teal color and scent stimulates the feeding response in many animals that refuse to eat typical insects and worms. Chameleons, bearded dragons, many lizards, birds, frogs, hedgehogs, and sugar gliders all love hornworms! Hornworms are an excellent way to hydrate your animals and provide the nutrition that they require.
Caring for hornworms
Our hornworm cultures are a fully functioning enclosure for hornworms. All cups are guaranteed to have at least the quantity listed in the description. Make sure to keep the habitat propped up, on a vented shelf, or on top of a screen to ensure plenty of ventilation. Hornworm droppings should be removed daily.
For maximum growth, hornworms should be keep at 82 degrees. However, they can be cooled down to 55 degrees to slow growth rates. Once your worms grow to your desired size, you can stop their growth by placing them in a refrigerator with temperatures no lower than 45 degrees (wine coolers work well for this). The worms should be cooled for 2 days, then removed and warmed up for one day. Repeat this schedule as necessary until all worms are consumed by your animals.
After receiving your hornworm culture, place the cup food side up. The worms will crawl to the food and their waste will drop to the lid for easy cleaning. Make sure that there is adequate ventilation beneath the lid. Hornworm droppings should be removed every day.
